Although the Pô human chain was a clear failure, its huge mediatization had a rather paradoxical effect, since by transgressing the principle of national unity on a tragi-comic tone, the Northern League's mercurial leader forestalled the tensions which were troubling Northeast Italy before reviving the national myth by the crisis. This declaration of independence of Padania worked, in fact, like a magic therapy: it was merely a political and national regeneration.
